I am posting this as a new conversation because the site will not allow me to reply directly to R. Baer\'s post: \"intelligent\" telephone answering machine. I have such a machine: Digitone ProSeries II Call Blocker. I has all the features R. Baer wants and more. One button can block all future calls from a current caller, It automatically blocks V-series numbers which are always robocalls. It has many other features that you can probably Google. I am very happy with the unit\'s performance, If you can tell me how to get permission to reply directly to a post, I would appreciate it.

What do you mean by \"reply directly\"? Something other than \"Reply to
all\"?

You\'re using Google Groups. Perhaps someone who shares an affinity for
that sad interface can offer you some assistance.

I think we all saw his posts about the Digitone. I guess something like that is ok for landlines, but even there is can\'t be very useful because most spammers don\'t use the same number twice. At least the ones who call me don\'t. I\'ve checked my call list and some 90% of the time it is the first time that number has called. So the Digitone allows you to block a number that you will likely never get another call from. But not on cell phones.

I don\'t know how it would give you any solace to block the number of someone who most likely didn\'t call you. The spam callers spoof the caller ID. They aren\'t using their own number in Bangalore. The number probably belongs to one of your neighbors.

Why is this a hard concept to understand? The cell companies already block calls from known spammers, but it is ineffective because of the spoofed numbers.
